Perton Library celebrates new garden

Perton Library will celebrate their new wildlife garden with an official opening on Thursday July 29.

From 11am, County Councillor and Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, Ben Adams will commemorate the event with the unveiling of a plaque. Councillor Adams will also be joined by staff, local residents and local children who have helped and donated towards making the new garden a real success.

The garden has been put together by 'Wild About Perton', a group of local residents who in 2006 came together to secure the future of Perton's natural environment and wildlife.

Developed by volunteers and with help from local Guides, Brownies, Scouts and Cubs the aim became to make the garden attractive to a variety of wildlife, especially creatures under threat such as bees, butterflies and birds.

County Councillor and Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture Ben Adams said: "The new garden at Perton is now a wonderful area in which everyone can relax and enjoy. I very much look forward to opening this event".

Thanks goes to Perton Pet & Garden who supplied bird feeders and food, BBC Breathing Places for appropriate funding to purchase bark, topsoil and hedging, and Staffordshire County Council Community and Learning Partnership who funded the pebble mosaic which now sits in the centre of the garden and represents local thoughts about what Perton means to them.
