Libraries encourage youngsters to take an adventure over the holidays

Libraries across Staffordshire are inviting young Space Hop Logopeople to keep up the reading habit this summer by registering for the free Summer Reading Challenge.

Children aged between 4-12 years old will want to go to their local library and put their names down for the challenge when registration starts on Saturday 10 July.

This year, the challenge has a 'Space Hop' theme and youngsters will need to read their way through six library books before Saturday 11 September to complete the mission.

The quest involves inviting children to help the young crew 'Ex Libris' set up the first library on the moon.

'Space Hop' participants can also expect a host of rewards throughout the challenge to encourage them to complete the final mission.

Councillor Ben Adams, County Councillor and Cabinet Lead for Communities and Culture said: "Despite competition from modern technologies, children love to read and be read to. Over 12,000 young people took part in the Summer Reading Challenge last year and I am hopeful that we can beat that number this year."

If your children have not yet registered for the Summer Reading Challenge, pop down to your local library and sign them up for free.
