Grove Music - the ultimate classical music encyclopaedia.

The Grove Music service is currently available for free on all computers in Staffordshire Libraries. Also, library members can log onto this site from home by using the barcode number on their library card, plus their PIN number. Please ask a member of library staff for further details.

BBC Music - Guides to the BBC channels, and vast amounts of information of every kind of music

Classical Music

British Music Information Centre - information on 20th and 21st century new music.

City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra

Gramophone Magazine - includes reviews from 1983.

Music Web International - information on British Composers.

Fanclubs

The best way to find fanclubs is through Google or Yahoo.

Live Music

Big Mouth - UK's no 1 live music information station.

Ultimate Gig Guide - guide to live gigs in central England and neighbouring areas.

Gigs.co.uk - information on theatre, music, comedy and sporting events in the UK.

Music Publishers, Trade and Copyright Organisations

British Library Music Collections - Collections at the British Library.

Mechanical Copyright protection Society - looks after the rights of the recording industry.

Music Publishers Association - looks after the interests of music publishers.

Performing Right Society - looks after the rights of composers. 

Rock and Pop

Amazon.co.uk - very good for tracing CDs, and song titles. Go to Music Search to search for song/ track titles.

BPI - British phonographic industry. Links to Record Compnaies, official charts.

The Official UK charts - for the latest music and video chart information.

Q magazine - an authoritative and entertaining all-round music magazine.

Songs and Lyrics

Lyrics websites, giving full texts of songs, tend to run into copyright trouble. We find it is often best to search for songs on Google, giving titles or lines of text with inverted commas e/.g. "Is he an ozzie is he Lizzy".

Music room - has an Advanced Search for finding individual songs in collections. Also sells sheet music and instructional videos.

Plymouth Library Song Index - this indexes every song in song albums known to Plymouth Libraries. Staffordshire Libraries use this to trace songs - we will have many of them in our collection.
