Staffordshire Libraries provide a library and information service to rural villages and urban areas that are a long way from a library building, as well as to sheltered housing, residential homes and other hard to reach communities. Working closely with internal and external partners, access to a full range of library services is ensured for all residents of Staffordshire wherever they may live.
The library service is delivered via a fleet of 12 creatively designed vehicles from single staffed mobile libraries to 2 super size travelling libraries, "neighbourhood libraries on wheels" for the 21st century, complete with wireless and satellite technology that provide live access to online resources.
5 mobile libraries and the travelling libraries operate from Stafford; the remainder are based at key locations around the county at Uttoxeter, Lichfield, Burton and Tamworth.
Each mobile library carries around 3,500 items of stock including books for children and adults, talking books, DVDs, local history and information.
Around 350 communities and 950 stops are visited either weekly or fortnightly
Residential Homes receive regular boxed exchanges via Library Transport vans.
