How did Aethelflaed choose where to put her settlement?

For this activity you will need the Anglo-Saxon map and PowerPoint Advising Lady Aethelflaed. Some pupils may need a writing frame.

The activity can be done using hard copies of the map or it can be used on an interactive whiteboard. Similarly the PowerPoint presentation can be shown pupils as an introduction, but the lesson does not hinge totally on using this resource. This lesson obviously has cross-curricular links with Geography and is also a good thinking skills lesson, make sure the pupils are able to explain their thinking (metacognition) for the most effective lesson.
