Are you trying to track down records relating to an elusive ancestor?

This handy gazetteer may help you.  It is often difficult to work out which poor law union's records or Anglican church registers you need to search.  Look no further - find the place you want by clicking on the relevant letter in the A to Z below.  You can find out which parish or poor law union the place was in and at what dates, and then follow links to collections of records in the Gateway to the Past online catalogue.  Where records are known to be held by another archive service (e.g. Wolverhampton or Shropshire) there may also be a link to the Access to Archives online catalogue, if appropriate.

This gazetteer is a work in progress - it currently contains over 800 direct links into our online catalogue relating to records of Anglican churches, parish councils, district councils and poor law unions.  Further work is planned to make the gazetteer even more useful, so watch this space.
