- Description
- In 1779 the armed merchantman "Westmoreland" was captured by French warships and its priceless cargo of art, antiquities and luxury goods was sold off at Malaga. Staffordshire's Lord Dartmouth was one of the unfortunate owners of the captured goods. This prestigious exhibition first at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and later at Yale University tells the story of the event and the subsequent history of the treasures. Documents from Staffordshire's Designated Collection of archives are featured in the exhibition.
