Making an Appointment - Archives

Due to the high level of use of our reading rooms an appointment is essential in order to guarantee a seat. When making a booking please help us to ensure that we reserve the space(s) you need by :

  • letting us know what you wish to look at - some family history sources are on microfiche, microfilm or CD-rom; some original records are held off-site and 48 hours advance notice is required to consult them; photographs are held in special conditions and 24 hours notice is required for them to reacclimatise to normal room temperature.
  • letting us know how many people are coming - unfortunately our reading rooms are normally unable to accommodate several people at one microfiche machine or table space.

The links below provide standard information about each of our archive repositories : how to contact us by email, by post or by telephone; our opening hours; how to find us; parking arrangements for people with disabilities; and public transport.
