: due to industrial action it is unlikely that Lichfield Record Office will be open to the public. If you are thinking of visiting us that day, please telephone the office during opening hours before setting out. If your call goes to voicemail you can assume that we are closed for the day.

Please note that, to avoid a wasted journey, it is essential that you make an appointment to visit the office, ensure that we hold the records that you are interested in, and bring acceptable proof of identity and address for reader registration. Further details are given in Planning a Visit.
Our reading room is open to all members of the public without charge. An Archive Service reader's ticket is required for use of the reading room. The link below provides information on how to obtain one.

Some tithe apportionments have been temporarily relocated from Lichfield Record Office to Staffordshire Record Office, whilst they are being worked on by our volunteers. Please see the Volunteering Opportunities page for further details.
There is a short-stay car park located at the rear of the building. The nearest long-stay car park is off The Friary furthest from the Record Office. There is some restricted parking for registered disabled readers at the front of the building. For full details please see the Car Parking

Lichfield City rail station is approximately ten minutes walk from the Record Office, and Lichfield Trent Valley rail station approximately twenty-five minutes walk.
