Yoxall - The impact of Military Service on a small agricultural community

Research in the case papers of the Military Appeal Tribunal show that many farm labourers and small-holders in Yoxall were refused exemption (see table||).

The heavy demand on a small agricultural community like Yoxall, could inevitably raise tensions. Anyone who was perceived to be taking advantage of the system could be informed against (see document 2||). The letter mentions a man who had been exempted from Military Service on five separate occasions and accuses him of shirking his duties under the exemption. After the Appeal Tribunal received this letter the man's appeal was finally refused and his case dismissed.
