Pinfold and Windmill

Section from a plan showing some of the Corporation's lands annotated as to sale lots, 1825, with some further annotations for 1852.

The various sections run down the main route north out of Stafford past the old pinfold, and the portion illustrated here shows the Tenterbanks from the Windmill to Stafford Mill. The sketch of the windmill is an unusual feature. The Tenterbanks along the river were originally used as an area for drying cloth.

There is also a sales notice for the lease of the windmill dated 1883, which gives a rare detailed description of the property. The tower is still standing today.

Other maps in this collection were created for the purposes of the first major mortgage in 1842, and are to a very large scale, showing great detail of buildings, grounds and occupiers.
