Stafford Borough

In 2006 Stafford celebrates the 800th anniversary of its first charter. Staffordshire Record Office holds a very fine and diverse collection of records from the Borough dating back to the sixteenth century. These include the formal records of the Council, records of property and admissions of burgesses, and also a large quantity of Clerk's legal and general papers which give an insight into the issues that affected the town and the lives of individual people. A sample of these are illustrated on these pages, together with a detailed summary of the collection and historic background.
