George Heath page 5

George Heath's poems are filled with a sense of despair at the waste of his life and talent. He had dreams of recognition and fame, which were not fulfilled.  He is like an early "Jude the Obscure" who tried to better himself through education, but ultimately felt that he had failed.  He used the term "obscure" about himself in his poem "The Peasant' Poet's Despair".
