This estate map was surveyed and mapped by Thomas Hale of Darnhall, Cheshire for William Richardson to show his estates in Biddulph parish. It shows field patterns, field names and lists the holdings of the various tenants of the estate. Notice also the decorative cartouche. Estate maps were often very beautiful as well as serving a practical purpose.
