Workshops were set up in Longton to provide employment and rehabilitation for disabled servicemen returning after the First World War. The charity file includes balance sheets and summary trading accounts for the business. The biggest items of expenditure were the salaries of the servicemen employed and for sheets of cardboard. Once established, income derived from sales of the boxes and baskets.
