The rents from a number of cottages at Rownall, Wetley Rocks and Cheddleton were earmarked for charitable objects.  Foremost of these were the National Schools at Wetley Rocks and Cheddleton which received £40 annually; and a further £1 17 shillings was set aside to assist Cheddleton students attending Leek Technical School.

The rest of the charity income was expended on insurance of the churches and schools, repairs to the cottages and donations to Cheddleton parish nursing fund.
