Online Catalogues
Gateway to the Past is the online catalogue of the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Archive Service and the William Salt Library. At present it contains over 80% of our catalogues and this percentage is steadily increasing. The online catalogue is managed by the Archive Service, but has been expanded to contain catalogues of museum objects and art works held by the Staffordshire Arts and Museum Service.
Direct links to archive collections in the Gateway to the Past online catalogue are provided through the Staffordshire Online Gazetteer, which lists Staffordshire places alphabetically. Currently live are links to Anglican parish recods, Parish Council records, Poor Law Union and District Council records. Development of this resource is ongoing.
Access to Archives (A2A) is the English strand of the UK Archive Network. It includes some Archive Service catalogues and those from other repositories throughout the country.
Staffordshire Views at the William Salt Library are now available via a dedicated searchable website in addition to Gateway to the Past and as a series of PDF format files.
The National Register of Archives is an index of catalogues from archive repositories from throughout the United Kingdom, maintained by the Historical Manuscripts Commission (now part of The National Archives).
