Forthcoming Meetings in 2010
Our progamme will continue with a series of summer evening visits -
On Wednesday 30th June 2010 at 7.00 p.m. we will visit the Teddesley Estate, near Penkridge, the home of the Hatherton family. This is to follow Thea Randall's talk on the Hatherton papers. Although Teddesley Hall itself was demolished there is still much of interest on the remaining estate. Cost £5.50 for members and £7.50 for non members, which includes a glass of wine or juice.
On Tuesday 17th August 2010 we meet at the gaol at 7.00 pm for a walk through the attractive village of Penkridge, with our expert guides Rose Wheat and David Calcroft. Cost £5.50 for members and £7.50 for non members, which includes a glass of wine or juice.
Our programme continues with two events in the autumn.
The first of these is to Four Ashes Hall at Enville near Stourbridge on Wednesday 15 September at 2.00pm. The cost will be £12 for members and £15 for non members including refreshments. This is an opportunity to see a family home not usually open to the general public which lies in extensive grounds and gardens within a private estate. The family archives survive and some will be on display for us to see.
The second is to the John Rylands Library in Manchester on Tuesday 2 November at 2.00pm. The cost will be £8 for members and £12 for non members, The Library is worth a visit on its own with Gothic Architecture, a cathedral like space and glorious stained glass. We will see some gems from the historic collection including some with relevance to Staffordshire. The numbers will be limited for this visit and members will be given priority.
Our Annual General Meeting will be held in the Learning and Resources Centre at Staffordshire Record Office on Monday 15 November at 7.30 pm. The speaker will be Dr Anne Tarver.
Support for the Archive Service
The most recent support the Friends have provided to Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Archives is for the cost of the purchase of a full set of document cushions which will be used at Lichfield Joint Record Office to support documents whilst they are being studied.
