Young People's Sports Performance Grant Scheme
Staffordshire County Council appreciates that sport offers a fantastic educational platform, but also that playing sport at a high level leads to unavoidable and increasing commitments for families. Our young sports people are very often keen and dedicated to their sport but struggle to fund themselves for such things as travel, accommodation, competition fees and equipment.
The Young People’s Sports Performance Grant Scheme aims to provide these potential sports stars with some additional support at an important time in their lives. The Young People’s Sports Performance Grant Scheme has been developed with a view to supporting our young athletes who are aiming to compete at the London 2012 Games. We also want to recognise and support those athletes from Staffordshire aiming for future Olympics, Paralympics and major international competitions.
The Scheme offers funding to young people from the County who are a member of their National Governing Bodies Development or Performance squad. It is aimed at young competitors with a date of birth between 1 September 1990 and 31 August 2001 for Olympic/Sport England sports or 1 September 1980 and 31 August 2001 for Paralympic sports. Applications from athletes previously supported through the Scheme and who now exceed the upper age limit will also be considered if they can provide evidence that they have a genuine opportunity to compete at London 2012. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this further.
Staffordshire County Council wants to make a real difference to the many aspiring, talented young sportsmen and women across Staffordshire and recognise their achievements. If you are one of those young people please read on…
