Frequently asked questions

Here you will find the answers to questions that you may have about the different roles within social care, including training and qualifications and pay and conditions.

What is the difference between Social Work and Social Care Work?

Social workers have to obtain a three year degree and when qualified have to be registered as a social worker. They will be involved at a high level with service users, working with them to assess their care requirements and working alongside other professionals such as doctors to make sure that every service user receives the particular type of support that he or she needs.

Social care workers primarily provide both practical and personal care. Often they will be involved in supporting one or more service users in the tasks of everyday living. No specific skills or experience are required when they begin work, but they will be given training, support and opportunities to obtain qualifications to help them develop their career.
