Open Door Staffordshire
'Open Door Staffordshire' is a work placement scheme established to enable disadvantaged job seekers to gain valuable up to date work experience to help them ultimately secure permanent paid employment. These groups include young people leaving care, ex-offenders, people with physical and/or learning disabilities and those who have recovered from drug or alcohol problems. In addition we can support people who have been made redundant or graduates seeking work experience.
By providing disadvantaged work groups with placement opportunities council departments get the chance to take on a potentially valuable new member of their workforce for a 12 week voluntary placement.
The departments need to be a committed to support the candidates during their placement with induction and any ongoing development opportunities as they would offer a regular employee.

Sign up to the Skills Pledge.

Signing a Staffordshire County Council Local Employment Partnership (LEP) agreement with Job Centre Plus.

Signing of the Staffordshire Drug and Alcohol concordat.

MP Liam Byrne's, challenge to West Midlands Public sector to;
1. Increase the number of people under 25 employed in the public sector.
2. Up-skill 75,000 employees to Level 2 qualifications.
3. Employ 10,000 people from the current unemployed population into essential occupations.
Aims
Through the Open Door Staffordshire scheme it is hoped that the council and voluntary sector organisations can work together to make Staffordshire the place to live, work and invest. Tackling unemployment in a holistic way means we can help to meet the following objectives:

To benefit communities and make them better places to live and work.
