Social Policy
The Department of Health (DoH) is responsible for setting health and social care policy in England. It sets standards and drives modernisation across all areas of the NHS, social care and public health. In Staffordshire, local health and social care services are provided and inspected according to these national policies, guidance and other supporting documents issues by the DoH.
Following changes in responsibilities amongst government departments in 2004 the Department for Education and Skills is responsible for all policy development relating to children and family services.
In implementing national policies in Staffordshire, health and social care organisations carry out statutory functions and also respond to local needs. In order to achieve best outcomes they work in partnership with a wide range of other organisations in the statutory, voluntary and private sectors.
