Staffordshire Cares: Community Wellbeing Fund

Small community groups, clubs and organisations are invited to submit an application for funding to the Community Wellbeing Fund to deliver local community-based projects. The overall aim of the scheme will be to improve the health, independence and wellbeing of older people and vulnerable adults.

The £1million Fund will be available over the next for years from 1st April 2010, with £250,000 allocated per year.

Applications should be targeted at one or more of the following older people and vulnerable adult groups:

  • People with Physical or Sensory Disabilities / Long Term Conditions
  • People with a Learning Disability
  • People with Mental Health / Emotional Wellbeing needs
  • Vulnerable Older People / Lone Pensioners

Applications should aim to address one or more of the following outcomes, with a focus on prevention:

  • Enable people to stay in their own home and live more independently.
  • Improve and increase home safety and maintenance.
  • Increase provision and access to equipment and adaptations.
  • Reduce the number of people from being admitted into hospital.
  • Reduce falls and trips.
  • Reduce poverty / fuel poverty and maximise financial inclusion.
  • Increase social networks to reduce isolation.
  • Increase intergenerational support.
  • Increase learning, training, employment and volunteering opportunities.
  • Increase user-led involvement and participation.
  • Reduce crime and fear of crime.
  • Reduced incidents of discrimination, harassment and abuse.
  • Increase awareness of mental health and address stigma.
  • Improve and promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
  • Improve and increase community transport.
  • Increase access to information.

There are two levels of funding:

Up to £1000 - There is a simple one side of A4 application form, requesting the aim, a description of activity, the reason for the request including evidence of bank details with references.   

From £1,000 to £10,000 - There is an application form, with a need to demonstrate in more detail how the project will meet the criteria.

Timescales

There are two opportunities to apply in 2010:

  • From 1 April with a closing date of 30 June
  • From 1 September with a closing date of 30 November.

Projects which are resubmitted for additional funding for a second year will be subject to review as part of the appraisal and scoring of ALL applications, new projects from small, local community groups will be prioritised.
