Introduction

The Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 was introduced on 01st October 2001, and since this date there has been a huge change in Leaving Care Services nationally.

Through Care Structure

In May 2007 following a major reorganisation of Staffordshire Vulnerable Children's Services, Staffordshire Leaving Care Service became integrated into the a Staffordshire Through Care Service, made up of four teams located accross the county, each covering a defined geographical patch and providing services to young people aged 13 years plus, who are either Looked After, leaving care, or have left care.

There are four area teams covering:

  • Newcastle and the Moorlands, based at Newcastle
  • Stafford and South Staffs, based in Stafford
  • Cannock and Lichfield, based in Lichfield
  • Burton and Tamworth, based in Burton.

Each team comprises a Team Manager, Social Workers, Personal Advisors and a Family Support Worker.  Central support is provided to these teams by a team based at Beaconside in Stafford, together with two finance officers also based in Stafford.
