Aiming High for Disabled Children in Staffordshire funds a range of activities and services for disabled children, young people and their families in Staffordshire.  All of the activities below that are marked 'Funded by Aiming High' are FREE unless otherwise stated. 

Service/Provider: 1st Blackfords Sea Scouts
Description: Scouting skills and water activities.
When? Beavers: Mondays 6 - 7pm.
Cubs: Mondays 7 - 8.30pm.
Sea Scouts and Explorers: Wednesdays 6.45 - 9.30pm.

Service/Provider: Beaudesert Park Farm (DW Cope Partners) - Farm Visits(Funded by Aiming High)
Description:

Free of charge family fun days on a traditional working farm. The days include cookery activities - creating a healthy lunch in the purpose built classroom to enjoy at lunchtime; a tour of the farm; rural craft session in the afternoon - making something to take home.

Days will be individually structured to meet the needs of children and young people with different disabilities.

Description:

Saturday Club:

  • Childcare/respite service for parents with disabled children.
  • Parents drop their children off at 9am until 12pm.
  • Children are looked after and supported with appropriate activities. Activities vary each week but may include a messy activity, construction activity and outdoor play. Computers, cameras, books and DVD’s are also available. 
  • Suggested donation of £3 a week for each child

Description: CASS Young Carers Project offers information, advice and emotional support to children and young people under the age of 18 years old who care for somebody with a chronic/terminal illness, disability, mental health problem, alcohol or drug addiction.  Support is provided through a variety of ways including one to one support , group work and youth clubs.

Description: Respite and end of life care for children from all over Staffordshire and South Cheshire.  The hospice provides a safe, caring environment for children and young people who have a life threatening illness and their families.  A siblings group which provides fun activities and outings with children in similar circumstances is also available. 
When? The hospice is currently open 4 days a week.

Description:

Service/Provider: Letting in the Light - Digital Animation Workshops (Funded by Aiming High)
Description:

Free digital animation workshops taking place in Staffordshire residential schools and outdoor education centres for disabled children and young people attending residential special schools. 

The sessions will use a range of digital media including photography, sound, image manipulation, animation and a variety of equipment and software to create exciting visuals and soundscapes.  Each session will be adapted to ensure it is accessible to children with a variety of disabilities. No experience of using digital media is required.

Please note this activity is only available to children who attend a residential special school.

Description:

NDCS is a national charity which aims to create a world without barriers for deaf children and young people.  NDCS is made up of families, parents and carers who provide emotional and practical support through a freephone helpline and other support services.  Free membership is available to parents, carers and professionals who support deaf children and young people.  NDCS can also help with welfare rights, benefit claims and with making educational choices.  Events and activities are free to members.

Service/Provider: Staffordshire Wildlife Trust - Wild Play Sessions and Family Events (Funded by Aiming High)
Description:

Free Wild Play sessions in the school holidays which include exploring the environment and active play. Activities will include shelter building, pond dipping, bug hunts, a range of active games, outdoor cooking and orienteering. Children and young people will learn about nature and use arts and crafts to explore the environment. 

Plus family events at weekends or school holidays to include activities that can be continued at home, as well as face painting and willow weaving.

Service/Provider: Steps Charity - Toy Library
Description:

A toy library offering specialised and mainstream toys which have been specially adapted for use by disabled children.  Steps offers a postal library membership scheme, where for a fee, families can access over 4,000 toys.  For more information please see the poster and booklet below:

Description: The aim of the group is to share knowledge and experience and above all to provide support .  The group is still in its infancy and welcomes new members.
