Money matters this Carers Right DayCarers Rights Day

Carers from across the county are invited to learn more about the financial issues that affect them at this year's Carers Rights Day events.

Staffordshire County Council is one of many organisations across the UK taking part in Carers Rights Day (Friday 5 December), a national awareness day organised by Carers UK.  The theme of this year's event is 'Making the most of your money'.

Each of the eight districts will be holding an event, on either the 4 or 5 December, catering for carers who want information, advice and support.  There will be a variety of agencies and organisations present at many of the events, including the Carers Association, Young Carers and Age Concern.

The events are aimed at the many carers providing unpaid care by looking after an ill, frail or disabled family member, friend or partner. In some cases, people may not actually realise they are carers and that help is available for them.

Councillor Susan Woodward, Cabinet Member for Healthier Communities and Older People said:  "We hope that carers will come along to these events and get the full benefit of talking to people who may be able to offer financial advice.

"In the current economic climate, this information could be particularly useful as it will be tailored to meet the needs and concerns of individual carers."

As well as financial advice there will also be information on health and safety as well as refreshments.
