Person Centered Thinking Training

 

 

3 day training event for all providers of social care services

 

Course Outline

 

Staffordshire County Council has developed this three day training program which gives the learner an insight to the ‘Person Centred’ approach. The program covers a number of person centred thinking skills which will make a difference in the lives of people that are supported by staff from a health and social care setting.

 

The course will utilise presentations and practical applications in order to provide participants with the experience of working with the new tools for a ‘Person Centred’ approach and each attendee will receive a mini book on the approach. The program will also provide an opportunity to reflect on previous experiences and give feedback on the current process and forms.   

 

Target Staff

 

This three day training is aimed at all fieldwork staff i.e. Practice Leads, Advanced Practitioners, Social Worker, Social Care Assessor, Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Transition Worker, Mental Health Support Worker, Adult Cares Managers, Service Delivery Leads, Rehabilitation Officer (VI), Rehabilitation Officer (HI).  Mental Health Social Workers and Senior Practitioners, Day Centre staff, Day Service staff, Residential Care, Domiciliary Care, Housing Providers, Health staff, Care staff, voluntary agencies.

 

Aim

 

At the end of the program participants will have:

 

  • an understanding of the principles and process of person centred thinking 
  • the person centred thinking tools in order to undertake their role
  • the knowledge to utilise the person centred thinking tools
  • - the skills to be able to identify between what might be important to them against what somebody else feels to be important
  • - the knowledge of what works and what doesn’t, looking at different perspectives
  • the ability to record how someone communicates through using a communication chart
  • the ability to identify the meaning of core responsibilities and where creativity and judgement is best used
  • the skills to record learning (e.g. by using learning logs and 4 plus 1 questions)
  • the ability to undertake effective Person Centred Support planning and Person Centred Reviews
  • an understanding of the changes in the process in line with the Personalisation Agenda

    - the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable them to effectively carry out Person Centred Support planning

    - - the philosophy of Outcome Based Reviews and using the new outcome focused review tool.

 

Please note the course charge is £100 for all non Staffordshire County Council staff and a £50 charge for all voluntary agencies. Cancellations of 10 working days or under will incur the full charge for all delegates; unless a replacement has been made (replacements must meet the course criteria).
