Carers Allowance

Claimant looking after someone who gets DLA (high/mid rate care) or AA - £55.55

"Gainful employment" earnings threshold - £100.00

Warning - getting Carers Allowance can affect the benefits of the person looking after, please seek advice.

Income Support -  paid to certain people to make sure that they have enough money to cover their basic living needs.  For example, carers, lone parents with a child aged under 7 or people "incapacitated for work" before 27th October 2008 may qualify. 

Amount payable is decided by comparing assessed income to an "applicable amount".  This is made up of personal allowances and premiums.

Personal Allowance

Single person

Under 25 - £53.45

25 and over - £67.50

Lone Parent

Under 18 - £53.45

18 or over - £67.50

Couple

Both 18 or over - £105.95

One or both under 18 (seek advice for rate that applies)

Premiums

As for Income Related Employment and    Support Allowance except Disability

(if pre 27th October 2008) and getting DLA or incapacitated for 52 weeks) -£28.85 (single), £41.10 (couple)
