Minerals Core Strategy

The Minerals Core Strategy will set out the vision, objectives and spatial strategy for future mineral related development within Staffordshire. Notably, the Core Strategy will indicate the strategic sites for future mineral working over the next 15 to 20 years.

Latest progress

On 15 June 2011, the Cabinet authorised the Cabinet Member for the Environment and Assets to write to Bob Neill MP, Parliamentary under Secretary for Communities and Local Government to seek his endorsement to an approach for aggregate mineral extraction in Staffordshire.

Work on preparing the Minerals Core Strategy is currently on hold but will restart after the Joint Waste Core Strategy has been adopted in 2012.

Local guidelines for the provision of aggregate minerals were determined by the former West Midland Regional Assembly in March 2010. The guidelines are set out in interim policy statement available on the WMRA archive website|.
