Hanson UK has applied to vary the current planning permission to allow the continuation of the existing mineral extraction in 3 phases until 31 December 2014.
In summary the operations in the northern-most phases of the quarry only began in 2010, some 2-3 years later than originally anticipated. As a consequence the applicant is seeking to vary a condition of the current permission which requires the mineral extraction to cease in this part of the quarry 5 years from the date of the planning permission i.e. by 6 February 2012. The applicant is seeking to extend the period of time to complete the mineral extraction to 31 December 2014. The applicant is not seeking to extend the area of mineral extraction and the approved stand-off from Walton upon Trent will therefore remain unaffected by this proposal.
