The Staffordshire County Council Natural Environment Team is responsible for conserving, maintaining and enhancing the natural environment through properly informing the planning process. Specialist environmental advice and support is provided within the County Council and to outside organisations, the voluntary sector and the general public.
Our biodiversity team provides advice and environmental information to Council departments, partners and the public regarding wildlife and its protection. We input to planning policy and development control, Country Park and other Council land management, highways improvement and maintenance, and maintenance and development of Council buildings. We work in partnership with other organisations across the County to protect and enhance Staffordshire's special sites, habitats and species.
Our forestry experts advise the Council, partners and the public on all manner of subjects concerning the rich diversity of forestry and individual trees within Staffordshire.
Staffordshire has a very varied landscape giving rise to a particular sense of identity in each part of the County, from the upland moors of the Peak District fringe to the farmed lowland landscapes of the River Trent and landscapes to the west.
Those landscapes are under pressure from a range of human activities. Our landscape experts provide advice to Council departments and the public on matters concerning the protection of the character of our varied landscapes, and potential visual impact of development decisions made by the County Council.
