Countryside

Staffordshire is a beautiful rural county of scenic contrast, stretching from the gritstone hills on the edge of the Peak District National Park, to the flood plains of the river Trent, to the edge of the West Midlands conurbation. The area includes the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the National Forest, together with the Forest of Mercia, a community forest.

We aim to provide members of the public with the chance to sample the variety of Staffordshire countryside via an estate of approximately 6000 acres of Country Parks, Open Spaces and Greenways, together with a Public Rights of Way network of approximately 2500 miles.

A series of Country Trails and Promoted Routes are available to encourage use of the path network. There is a series of monthly circular walks centred on the Staffordshire Way. This series of walks has been produced with the assistance of the Ramblers Association and a new walk will be published each month.

The County Ranger Service are responsible for the care of the Country Parks and also inspect the Public Rights of Way network. A half yearly PDF document icon Guided Walks and Events Programme is available including led walks and talks.

The pages here will give you a taste of what Staffordshire has to offer. If you want to know more, contact us and we'll be happy to help.

Your views on our Country Parks are important and help us to improve the service we give to our visitors. If you have visited one of our parks it would be of benefit to us if you were to fill in the PDF document icon Country Park Visitor Survey. Thank you.
