Staffordshire Historic Environment Record
| The Staffordshire Historic Environment Record is a fundamental tool in the conservation and management of the Historic Environment, as well as a useful tool for academic and personal research. It is one of the primary sources of information available on the local historic environment and is used as the basis of all advice and policy provided by the Development Services Department. |
 |
 |
Formerly known as the Sites and Monuments Record, the name has been changed to reflect the wider information now held within the record. The Historic Environment Record includes information on the archaeological sites and monuments, historic buildings and historic landscapes. Information on archaeological interventions and a wide range of source information is also incorporated into the record. |
| The Historic Environment Record includes a database with linked digital mapping, which includes records of all historic buildings and monuments within the county as well as designation information. There is also a paper-based archive including historic mapping, aerial photography, archaeological reports and other sources such as books and journals. The record is searchable through monument and building types, designation and status, or by location. |
| Some of the information held within the Historic Environment Record is now available through our interactive mapping, including Scheduled Monuments, Listed Buildings, Conservation areas and Registered Park and Gardens and Registered Battlefields. For more detailed information and enquiries you can contact the Historic Environment Records Officer. We also welcome visitors to carry out there research at our offices, although due to limited space it is necessary to book an appointment. |
