Cannock Chase AONB

Cannock Chase was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1958 and is one of a family of 37 in England. At 68 km2, it is the smallest mainland AONB and is much visited and cherished by local people. A visitor survey in 2000 showed that there are 1.5 million visits to the Chase each year.

The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 (CROW Act) requires that a Management Plan for the AONB be produced following extensive consultation in April 2004.

An AONB unit based within the AONB on the Shugborough Estate is preparing the management plan on behalf of the AONB Partnership.
