Hanbury Common
Hanbury Common Picnic Place is a small area of brambles and trees with beautiful views over the Dove Valley. The nearby Cock Inn is the starting place for three local walks through the surrounding countryside, the Hanbury Walks.

The walks take in Tutbury, Draycott-in-the-Clay and the Fauld Crater. Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned at Tutbury Castle and Charles I took refuge there after the Battle of Naseby in 1645.
Fauld Crater is the site of the largest explosion in Britain. On 27 November 1944, 4,000 tons of high explosive bombs stored in former Gypsum mines exploded leaving 70 people dead and a crater 400 feet deep, covering an area of 12 acres. |
