Regional and Strategic Planning Policy
Staffordshire County Council is part of the West Midlands Region. The latest regional planning guidance for the West Midlands (RPG11 June 2004) is now referred to as the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS). The Planning Policy team is also responsible for the monitoring of the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Structure Plan.
The Structure Plan contains strategic planning policies, which deal with economic development, transportation, housing, green belt, environment, recreation and countryside, minerals and waste disposal, that are implemented through a broad range of partners. Structure Plan officers are also responsible for liaising with District Councils during the preparation and implementation of their development plan documents and influencing Government regional guidance policy by working closely with the West Midlands Regional Assembly.
