This page is intended to provide an introduction to the planning policies operated by Staffordshire County Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the 8 Staffordshire Districts. It also provides related links to other web pages where more details can be found, including access to some of the relevant planning policy documents, or who to contact to discuss them.

We are currently preparing the Minerals Core Strategy and Waste Core Strategy.  These two documents will set out the vision, objectives and spatial strategies for future mineral and waste related development within Staffordshire over the next 15 to 20 years.  The Waste Strategy will also include Stoke-on-Trent City Council's area.

Related Links

The Minerals & Waste Development Framework provides new mineral and waste policies and is a 'folder' or portfolio of local development documents.

Minerals planning in Staffordshire provides an outline of the existing mineral planning policies and the 'saved' Minerals Local Plan (MLP).

Waste planning in Staffordshire provides an outline of the existing waste planning policies and the 'saved' Waste Local Plan (WLP).

Regional and Strategic Planning Policy includes the minerals and waste policies in the Regional Spatial Strategy and the Staffordshire Stoke-on-Trent Structure Plan.

National Planning Policies and Guidance are prepared by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) and are used to inform the planning policies contained within local plans and policy documents prepared by local planning authorities.

'Saved policies' provides the latest information about the 'direction letters' we received on 17 September 2007 from the Government Office for the West Midlands about the Structure Plan, Minerals Local Plan and Waste Local Plan policies that have been saved as part of the development plan with effect from 28 September 2007.

Development Plan Index provides an overview and links to the planning policy documents prepared by Staffordshire County Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the 8 Staffordshire Borough/District Councils.

Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out how we consult and involve the community in policy preparation and planning decisions.
