Adaptation - Adapting to Climate Change
Even if the emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases stopped tomorrow, the gases already in the atmosphere would continue to drive climate change for at least the next thirty years.
As a county, we need to take the lead and demonstrate that we are protecting your key services from these changes. In Staffordshire, we are expecting to experience:
To assess how the county council currently deals with severe weather impacts, we produced a Local Climate Impacts Profile (LCLIP) report. The report shows that severe weather can already cause significant disruption to council services. It concludes that we can do more to neutralise the effects that weather can have.

Since the completion of the LCLIP, in order to prepare for future changes, the county council has produced a risk assessment to determine where the high priorities for tackling impacts from severe weather and climate change lie. We have also developed an Adaptation Plan, which sets out what the county council intends to do about the most urgent risks.

As the expected changes are similar across the whole county, other partner organisations are also conducting an equivalent risk assessment and developing their own Adaptation Plans, all of which are compatible with the county council plan. Following the completion of more of these assessments and plans, we will be able to identify cross-cutting risks that affect all partners, and consequently save money by dealing with them together.
