Youth Action Kouncil Homepage

The Youth Action Kouncil (YAK) is the official young person's advisory board to Staffordshire County Council. YAK give young people living, working or studying in Staffordshire a voice, to allow them to have their say on things which affect them and their friends, and a chance to get involved in developing and shaping decisions that affect them. YAK members aim to campaign and take actions on issues that affect young people. YAK represents young people from all over Staffordshire, including people from District Youth Forums, Young Carers Forum, VOICE Forum (Young People Leaving Care), Children and Young Peoples Voice (Young People in Care), S.C.V.Y.S (Staffordshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services Forum) and the UK Youth Parliament.

Members must be aged between 11 and 19 and membership is by election only from one of the following groups:

  • From any of the Staffordshire District Youth Forums
  • Young Carers Forum
  • 4us Forum (Young People Leaving Care)
  • Children and Young Peoples Voice (Young People in Care)
  • Special Needs Young People
  • S.C.V.Y.S (Staffordshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services Forum)
  • UK Youth Parliament, 8 elected members all receive an automatic place

All of the above groups receive four places for which the young people are all democratically elected within their own group. Elections take place annually between mid February and mid March.

Jack Bourne, Chair of YAK said "Hi my name is Jack Bourne, and I am the Chair of the Youth Action Kouncil (YAK). I am really looking forward to this year, working alongside the whole of YAK to gain the best possible results for young people within Staffordshire. In particular, I am excited to see how we can progress and working closely with our two campaigns of Anti-Bullying and Access to Positive Activities in conjunction with the new 'Your Staffordshire Card'. If you are a young person who lives, works or is in education within Staffordshire and you have anything you wish to contact YAK about, please don't hesitate as we are happy to hear all of your views."
