The Role of the Early Years District Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCos) and Early Years Co-ordinators

Lady practitioner with childrenThe overriding role of the Early Years District SENCos across Staffordshire is to support Early Years children with Special Educational Needs in pre-schools and nurseries.

The role of the Early Years Co-ordinators within each district is to support Early Years Foundation Stage maintained settings, school nurseries and children's centres.

What we do:

  • Provide help with early identification and assessment

  • Offer support, advice and training opportunities

  • Contribute to raising individual child development/achievement

  • Provide support for individual children and their families/carers

  • Offer support at the time of transition
