Exclusion From School
Children can be excluded from school either for a fixed period, a number of days after which they would be expected to go back to the school, or permanently. A permanent exclusion means that the child will not be allowed to return to the school and an alternative school will have to be found. In some cases older children may not return to school but might be found a place on a college course.
The process of exclusion is set out in guidance issued by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). The County Council provides schools with exclusion forms and model letters. Click here to open a page where you can download or view copies of these letters.
The Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) is an independent advice centre for parents, offering information about state education in England and Wales for 5-16 year olds. They offer free telephone advice on many subjects like exclusion from school, bullying, special educational needs and school admission appeals.
