Secondary, High School and JCB Academy Admissions September 2012

The following information is intended for those applying for a place in year 7 at secondary school, year 9 at high school or year 10 at the JCB Academy starting September 2012.

I have yet to receive my child's offer of a secondary school place, what should I do? 

  • If you applied on-line you will receive your offer by e-mail at some point throughout the day on the 1st March 2012.
  • If you made a paper or telephone application you will receive your offer by post. As we operate a second class postal system there is no guarantee the letter will reach you by the 1st March. Please be patient your child's offer will arrive in due course.
  • if by the close of business on the 7th March 2012 you have yet to receive your child's offer please contact us on 01785 278593.

My child has been refused a place at a school, what next?

  • If your child has been refused a place at a higher preference school he/she will be placed on a waiting list until the end of the Autumn Term 2012.
  • Your child's position on the waiting list is determined by the admissions criteria used by the school to which your child has been refused entry, details of which can be found in the Secondary Information for Parents Booklet (1,222 kb).
  • Your child's position on a waiting list can be subject to change. To enquire about your child's position on a waiting list please contact us on 01785 278593.
  • If at any point before the end of the Autumn Term 2012 a place becomes available at one of your preferred schools and we are able to offer a place we will be in touch.
  • If you wish to appeal the decision please consult the school admissions appeals page for the relevant forms and guidance.
  • If your child has been refused entry to a Catholic, Foundation, Voluntary Aided School or an Academy you will need to appeal direct to the school.

How were school places allocated?

  • The following PDF Document Summary of Allocations for September 2012 (5.6 KB) indicates how places were allocated this year.
  • School places were allocated using an admissions criteria.
  • Catholic, Voluntary Aided, Foundation, Trust Schools and Academies have their own admissions criteria.
  • Each school has a limited number of places for their September 2012 intake. The Published Admissions Number (PAN) for each school is the number of places that has been allocated.
  • To find out about a schools PAN and any information regarding the admissions criteria please consult the PDF Document Secondary Information for Parents Booklet (1,222 KB).

Is my child entitled to free home to school transport?

  • Transport is provided to the catchment or closest school where the home address is more than 3 miles walking distance to the school.
  • If you are in receipt of the maximum level of working tax credits or your child is in receipt of free school meals, and your child has been allocated a place at one of 3 closest schools between 2 and 6 miles your child may be entitled to free home to school transport on low income grounds.
  • To apply for transport on low income grounds you will need to apply by completing PDF Document Form B Income assessed transport application form Word DocumentForm B Income Assesed Transport Application Form.
  • Free home to school transport to catholic schools will only be provided on low income grounds or where the school is over three miles and the closest to the home address
