Secondary Schools and High Schools
How to apply
When your child moves into year 6 at primary school or year 8 at middle school you will need to start thinking about which secondary or high school you would like your child to go to. Parents will be asked to make their application between late September and 31st October 2012.

A Secondary Information for Parents| booklet is available for guidance and this will be available from the autumn term 2012. This can be requested from the School Admissions Team by telephoning 01785 278593.
When making your application please remember to provide any additional information that may be requested. This may particularly apply to foundation, trust and voluntary aided schools who may require evidence of baptism.
Primary Schools, First Schools and Middle Schools
How to apply
If your child was born between the 01/09/2007 and 31/08/2008 you will be able to apply for a place in a reception class from 01st November 2011. If your child is a year 4 pupil at a first school you will also be able to apply for a middle school place for your child from this date. The closing date for both types of applications is 15th January 2012.

Admission to Academies, Voluntary Aided, Foundation and Trust Schools.
The governing body is responsible for the admissions criteria that will be used in deciding which pupils to admit should the school be oversubscribed. A summary of the admissions criteria adopted by these schools can be found in the relevant Information for Parents booklets or you can contact the school for a full copy of their admissions criteria.

Allocation of Places

All preferences are assessed equally
-
If there are more applications than there are places then the oversubscription criteria is applied

Decisions are made for each of your preferences

If a place can be offered at more than one preference then the highest ranked school will be offered
-
The equal preference scheme means that you do not risk losing a lower ranked preference by not listing the school as your 1st preference

Include at least one preference you are likely to be offered
Offer of a School Place

01st March 2012 - offer of a school place for secondary and high schools

20th April 2012 - offer of a school place for primary,first and middle schools

A period of 2 weeks will be provided to accept the offer. If you are happy with your offer no further action is needed

If you are not happy with the decision you have the right to appeal against the decision. The School Choice Adviser may be able to provide you with further help regarding the appeals process

If you are refused a place at your preferred school your child's name will be automatically placed on the waiting list
Waiting Lists

Names are placed on the waiting list in accordance with the admissions criteria

A child's position on the waiting list is not fixed

If you have lodged an appeal your name will still be placed on the waiting list for community schools
