How much will the pass cost me, and can I get help with paying for it?
For a pass to run from September 2008 to July 2009, the cost we will ask you to pay is £290. The cost is reviewed each year by the County Council.
Payment can be made in one go, or as two payments - one now to cover September to the end of December £145, and then another payment of £145 in November to cover January until the end of July. The form asking for payment will give you full details of your payment options.
You might be able to apply for an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), which gives a weekly payment to help towards your study costs, such as travel. For more information on EMA please call the Helpline for Young People and Parents free on 080 810 16 2 19 or visit www.ema.dfes.gov.uk .
If you or your parents receive-

Income support (
not working families tax credit)

Income based job seekers allowance

Guaranteed pension credit
..then you may not have to pay towards your pass and will get it for free (the application form gives you advice on what you need to do).
If you have special educational needs and want help in getting to school or college an application form will be sent directly to you around Easter time and should be returned by the 4 June 2008 at the latest. If you do not receive this form, or have any more questions, please phone 01785 278950.
