Next steps
St Modwen’s Catholic Proposal – the statutory notice was published in the Burton Mail on Thursday 26 April. The four-week “representation period” for receipt of comments and objections will end on Wednesday 23 May 2012. Outline planning permission has been given for the new site off Tutbury Road and the next step is to submit a detailed planning application.

Cabinet Report 18 April 2012
On 18th April 2012, Cabinet agreed the following recommendations:

That Cabinet approve the proposals to ensure the supply of additional schools places for Burton upon Trent to meet increasing population demand:
-
Ratify the proposal for a new 420-place academy to open in September 2013 on the Belvedere Sports and Social Club site.

Approve the publication of a statutory proposal to enlarge St Modwen’s Catholic Primary and relocate onto the Tutbury Road site in the 2013/14 academic year.
-
Determine the statutory proposal to change the age range of Christchurch Infants School, Burton on Trent to become a primary school from September 2013, conditional upon the grant of planning permission under Part 3 of the Town and Country Planning Act.

Approve public consultation on a proposal to enlarge River View Primary School by September 2014.

Christchurch Infants School Proposal
Public consultation closed on the 4th April 2012 on the proposal to change the age range of Christchurch Infants Community School from 1 September 2013.
The current age range of the school is 3 to 7 years. The proposed age range is 3 to 11 years.

St. Modwens Catholic Primary School Consultation
Public consultation closed on the 19th March 2012 on the proposal to expand St Modwen’s Catholic Primary School to increase Reception places from 30 to 60 in a brand new 420-place school to be built off Tutbury Road from September 2013.

Cabinet Report 17 August 2011
On 17 August, Cabinet agreed the following recommendations:
-
publish a statutory proposal to change the age range for Christchurch Infants to become a primary school by September 2013;
-
commence the process to secure a sponsor for a new primary school academy (or academies) to open from September 2013 or later, on a site or sites to be determined;
-
consider all site options owned either by Staffordshire County Council or a third party taking into consideration the areas shown on Appendix 2.
-
consult on a proposal to expand St Modwen’s Catholic Primary School by September 2013, subject to the agreement of the school’s governing body and trustees;
-
continue discussions with Violet Way Academy, Edge Hill Junior and River View Primary Schools on any necessary proposals for increasing capacity in the area by September 2014 and to bring them to a Cabinet meeting in December.
-
keep under review primary school provision in other areas of Burton and bring forward, as necessary, proposals to increase capacity.
-
submit a bid to Partnership for Schools under “severe basic need” criteria to secure capital investment.
