About BSF in Staffordshire

Building Staffordshire's Future is a fantastic opportunity that could bring over £750 million of investment into the county over a 10-15 year period through the government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

Staffordshire has recently been selected for early entry into the BSF programme for a £100 million project in Tamworth.

If all goes to plan, then Staffordshire's BSF programme will proceed through various stages of development with construction work commencing in 2011 and completing around 2021.

When construction works begin they will take will take place over three phases:

Early Entry Bid - Tamworth
Phase 1 - Cannock, Newcastle
Phase 2 - East Staffs, Stafford
Phase 3 - Lichfield, South Staffs, Moorlands

Although this may seem like a very long timescale, the next few years will shape and determine our strategy for many generations to come. We are at the start of a journey which is both challenging and exciting and we look forward to shaping the future of secondary education for the young people of Staffordshire.

As with any major capital development programme consultation is an integral part of the BSF process. Since we held out launch conference last Autumn, there have been a number of consultation meetings with headteachers and other key stakeholders as well as public and young people's consultations on the Manifesto for Change. Our second key stakeholder conference was held on 10 November and more consultation events will be held.

Over the past eighteen months initial preparations have been made, including writing our Manifesto for Change. The Manifesto is the visioning document that will underpin the Building Staffordshire's Future. One of the measures of success of the programme will be delivering the 10 outcomes in the Manifesto. It is the outcome of over a year of planning and consultation on the priorities we have set and the targets we aspire to reach through this investment.
