Individuals, Groups and the Community

This theme is related to the Every Child Matters outcomes: 'making a positive contribution' and 'economic well being'.

The Children's Fund will work with children, young people and their families and the Voluntary Community Sector to increase the capacity of individuals, groups and community organisations.  This capacity building could focus around knowledge, participation, self-determination and development of community resources.  The programme would expect to see a large number of different outcomes but essentially each service should:

1.      Help children/young people understand their rights and responsibilities;

2.      Help children and young people in making their voices heard and participating in decision-making around issues of relevance to them;

3.      Help children and young people to join in, try hard to fulfil their potential and cope with personal changes;

4.      Help communities to sustain and develop activities;

5.      Help develop knowledge and skills within families and communities to encourage individual, group and political development;

6.      Support parents to take active roles within services by enabling, promoting and supporting their activities.
