There are few careers that are as rewarding as working with children.  Quality education, care and play makes a real contribution to giving children a good start in life. It lays the foundation for the development of children in their formative early years and prepares them for later life.  Just as school children will always remember a good teacher, people working in the early years sector have an enduring bond with the children that they help to flourish.

Are you considering a career with children?

A career working with children offers a number of career options including:

• Working in a Day Nursery - these usually cater for children from birth up to 5 years of age. They provide full day care and many provide early education. Some offer out of school activities for older children.  You could even become a Day Care Provider yourself.
• Working in a Pre-school or Playgroup - these provide childcare, play and early education normally for children aged from 2 years up to 5 years.
• Working in Before and After School Clubs and Holiday Schemes - these have become increasingly popular and generally cater for children aged between 4 years and 14 years.
• Being self-employed and becoming a Childminder. Childminders care for children of varying ages, some have the satisfaction of seeing children grow from babies until they become teenagers.

Your local Jobcentre Plus can also give you advise and support on careers in childcare and have many jobs available for you to find your dream job.
