Toy Libraries - what are they?

A Toy Library is a community resource for play, which may include equipment, toys for loan, dedicated space and skilled staff - some of whom may be volunteers.

The Toy Library can also be a way of signposting to other agencies.

In Staffordshire, we are fortunate that some Toy Libraries have stay and play sessions, which allow parents/carers and their children the opportunity to explore new toys and equipment in a stimulating and safe environment.

The aim is to promote family social interaction, whilst addressing the individual social skills and development of the child.

Toy libraries are unique.

They aim to cater for all members of the community.

Each project endeavours to meet the needs of the local area.

Operational hours vary considerably with mobile Toy Libraries, whereas static Toy Libraries provide more regular opening times.

All Toy Libraries welcome children who may have additional or special needs. There are some Toy Libraries that offer specialised equipment to support this.

They are found in many areas:Image of child playing

There are over 30 toy libraries across Staffordshire
