Children Centre Activities
We provide a range of health and family support services and activities to support young children and their families from ante-natal advice through to help in preparing your children to go to school.
The services and activities provided are always developing and expanding to meet the needs of families. Some of the activities are open to everyone; while other activities are available on a referral only basis, for more information or to find out how you can be referred please contact us.
Play and Learning Activities
We have a wide range of play and learning activities designed to support the holistic development of young children: physical, creative, intellectual, creative, spiritual and social. The activities aim to involve parents in their children's development, suggesting ways in which they can support their child's early learning experiences, while at the same time having fun!
Activities for Parents/Carers
Needles and Pins Group
Fun activities for parents, providing opportunities to meet and learn new skills, including needlework. The group produce quilts, sensory mats, children's dressing up outfits and lots more all in a lively and fun group of parents.
The Community Link Team, provide our parents with some creative opportunities during their Open House sessions (Thursday afternoons at the Centre). Creche places are available but limited, so book early to avoid disappointment. Most Open House sessions are based on short courses, for example, at present the group is learning how to crochet, and knit children's toys, and items of clothing. This is proving to be a very popular skill and when you consider it costs a fraction of the price to produce your own toys and clothing, it's no wonder. Check out the newsletter to see whats coming soon and don't forget to book!
Activities for Older Children
As well as services for young children and parents, we also hold events and activities for older children including our holiday activities.
Return to Work or Education
The Children's Centre works in partnership with Cannock College, Staffordshire University, Cannock Chase High School and the Library Service to offer courses to meet the needs of families.
If you are looking to develop your skills and return to work or education then you may wish to take advantage of our training opportunities including IT, craft, first aid, or back to work skills training. We can also offer volunteering opportunities with a range of local employers.
There is a small charge place for some of our activities, to cover some of the costs. For all other activities, where a charge is not in place we kindly ask for a voluntary contribution to attend activities. We would however, never exclude families attending on the basis that they could not afford a contribution and if you have any concerns regarding cost, please speak to one of our staff members.
Please contact the Children's Centre on 01543 506535 for more information on the dates and times of activities or check out the newsletter link on our home page.
